It’s 12:45 pm on a warm, cloudy, Saturday afternoon and I’ve just gotten out of the bath.

At about 5 weeks shy of my 47th birthday life looks a little different than it did 15 years ago. In my early 30’s bath time was an indulgent, nighttime routine. Today this lunchtime bath ritual was much needed preventative medicine. Allow me to explain …

I recently moved to Arizona from Chicago and one of the main reasons I did so was to start increasing the activity in my life. In Chicago I was always wanting to ride bikes, go for walks, spend time outdoors but it seemed like whenever I had the opportunity the weather was uncooperative and I made a promise to myself that as soon as my feet hit that desert soil and was living with perpetually sunny days I was going to start getting out more, getting more active and enjoying the outdoors.

So here I am 46, red faced, dripping in sweat, legs shaking like a vibrating bed in a cheap hotel - post 60 minute [glorious] first bike ride in almost 20 years - smiling from ear to ear, yet wise enough to know I overdid it and  I’ll be paying for this treat tomorrow if I’m not careful.

So since I don’t want to spend my Sunday in bed [and I was in desperate need of a shower anyway] I opted for a post workout cool bath designed to soothe my muscles and reinvigorate my body, with of course, a little help from my friends essential oils.

To a tepid bath I added 1 / 2 cup epsom salts, 6 drops each Rosemary and Grapefruit essential oils.

Rosemary oil aids in circulation, eases muscle tension and combats fatigue. Grapefruit oil is invigorating to the mind and body, and eases tension also. It combines beautifully with rosemary for a bright, fresh, invigorating bath. Epsom salts soothe sore muscles, prevent muscle cramps and soak away fatigue making this the perfect post-[strenuous] workout bath soak.

This combo makes a great gift, just package it in a glass container because the grapefruit oil will erode anything plastic. For a great pick-me-up you can also add the two oils to any unscented lotion for continued effects outside the bath.

So, want to see why I rode my bike for an hour the first day and didn’t come home earlier like a smart girl [er, grown woman]? Check out these views!
